1871, 6¢ Yellow Green, tied by ring cancel (Gregory ring4-24) fancy cancel on orange cover to Wm. Lee Bond, Yale College, New Haven Conn., red "G.P.O. Hawn. Islds, Paid All, 2-4-75" foreign mail cds (233.24, R3), red "San Francisco, Paid All, Feb 15" transit cds, manuscript "Feb. 22. 1875" receipt docketing at top left, original letter datelined "Kohala, Jan. 18th 1875" from E.M. Bond with some family content and originally enclosing a gold draft for $200, mentions "…I am sorry you you did not add another stamp to that returned letter…That strolling Chinaman who took those first miserable pictured of George has visited Eleio & James few pictures of the family taken & E_. sent some of them to use marked for you…"; small top edge tear, F.-V.F.

1871, 6¢ Yellow Green, tied by four-ring cancel on cover to Beckworth Cal., red "G.P.O. Honolulu, Paid All, Oct 19" foreign mail (277.12) cds, red "San Francisco Paid All Oct 29" cds, original enclosure datelined "Honolulu, October 7th 1874" with some interesting content: "…I visited the islands of Hawaii and Maui…it was my first visit to Hawaii, the largest of the group. I made the entire circuit of that island, staying at Hilo two weeks and Kona one. Hilo is one of the loveliest and greenest villages in the world; situated on a crescent-shaped bay…From Hilo, a party of us went, on horseback, thirty miles to the famed volcano, Kilauea. The road was dreadful…from the side of the great crater, we watched the fireworks three miles distant, in two burning lakes. The next day…we descended into the crater, traversed the lava beds & strode beside one of the burning lakes…", F.-V.F. with interesting content.

1882, 5¢ Ultramarine, Horizontal Pair, in combination with 1886, 2¢ rose (natural s.e. at right) on cover addressed to U.S. Ship "Iroquois" in Apia, Samoa, pair canceled by target and all tied by "Honolulu, H.I., Dec 22, 1890" duplex postmark, red "Paid All." in oval handstamp and reverse with receiving docketing "Per S.S. Alameda"; stamps slightly affected by placement over edge of cover, still Very Fine, approximately twelve 12¢ non-UPU treaty rate to Australia and Samoa covers are known.
