1893, 5¢ Ultramarine, Red Overprint, single on two separate covers with United States Senate imprint corner card, each tied by "Washington, D.C., Dec 28 '96" machine cancel to C.V. Sturdevant, Honolulu, Hawaii, one with "H. Chilton" free frank signature, each reverse with San Francisco (1.2) transit and Honolulu (1.14) arrival cds; each slightly rough opening at top, F.-V.F. and unusual.

An interesting pair of usages apparently sent free within the United States with the Hawaii 5¢ postage stamp added to ensure delivery in Hawaii. Horace Chilton (1853-1932) was a United States Senator from Texas 1891-92 and 1895-1901.

1893, 6¢ Green, Red Overprint, in combination with 1893, 2¢ rose, black overprint + 1871, 6¢ yellow green + 1891, 2¢ dull violet on registered 2¢ rose entire (U11) to Bombay, India, all tied by red target handstamps, matching "Honolulu, Hawaii, Sep 30, 1895" cds and "R" registry handstamp, N.Y. registry etiquette and appropriate transit backstamps including "Sea Post Office" and receiving cds's, cover fumigated with corner clip at lower left and upper right, faint cover staining at right likely due to the fumigation process, Very Fine, a rare usage to India sent during the 1895 cholera epidemic; with 1990 P.F. certificate.

1893, 10¢ Black, Red Overprint, Horizontal Pair, in combination with 1893, 1¢ green, red overprint on registered wrapper to Colchester, England, all tied by target handstamp, red "Honolulu, Hawaii, Sep 4, 1893" cds (273.01, scarcity 2) with matching "R" registry and return receipt handstamps, red London entry postmark and receiving backstamp, reverse with red straight line "E.W. Holdsworth." and "Honolulu." sender's handstamps; left 10¢ with trivial toned perf at top, Very Fine, a very scarce registered wrapper usage probably paying the 2 times the 3¢ rate for each 2oz.'s of newspaper plus 10¢ registry and 5¢ return receipt fees.

A HANDSOME EXAMPLE OF THE 1893 10¢ KALAKAUA RED OVERPRINT ERROR.

Most of the examples from the only sheet of fifty produced, are centered into the perforations at top. It is believed that eight examples were destroyed from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and that less than forty examples are in existence.

(55), 2¢ dull violet (57) and two 5¢ ultramarine (59) singles, all tied by two strikes of purple "Kilauea, Kauai, Feb 1, 1894" cds (281.01) on registered cover to Drome, France, magenta manuscript "Registered., #197" at left, reverse with "Kilauea, Kauai, H.I." two-line handstamp on flap, Honolulu purple "Registered Hawaii, P.O., 10600" registry and "A.R." handstamps, reverse with San Francisco (2.15) and New York (2.21) transits, New York registry exchange label affixed, Drome (3.2) arrival backstamp; slight toning, F.-V.F., A scarce registered use from Kauai.
