Special Delivery Envelope, 1885, 10¢ Black, registered entire addressed to San Francisco, Cal., uprated with 1894, 5¢ rose lake and tied by red target cancel, matching "Honolulu, Hawaii, Sep 5, 1895" cds and "R" & number registry handstamps, receiving backstamps, corners with fumigation clips due to the Cholera Epidemic in Honolulu, Very Fine; with 1999 P.F. certificate. A VERY RARE REGISTERED USAGE OF THE 1885 10¢ SPECIAL DELIVERY ENVELOPE.
This entire was order by Postmaster General Whitney with 2,000 10¢ entires being imprinted. These envelopes however were never placed into use, but stored at the Treasury until 1893 when the entire stock was sold to J.T. Waterhouse of Honolulu. He in turn sold them as souvenirs in his curio store.
