Continental Telegraph Co., 1c-50c, Plate Essays on India (unlisted in Scott), Complete set of six values in blocks of four mounted on original card, all but the 1c with bottom "American Bank Note Company, New York." imprint, all with large margins all around, deep rich colors, Extremely Fine and choice.

THE ONLY KNOWN COMPLETE SET OF ESSAYS ON INDIA IN BLOCKS OF FOUR FOR THE UNISSUED CONTINENTAL TELEGRAPH COMPANY STAMPS.

Continental Telegraph Co. operated between New York and Philadelphia from 1878 until 1882, when the company was sold to Western Union. These essays were produced but no actual stamps followed. The Siegel sale of the Born collection had the ex-Kramer set of singles with bottom imprint (1¢ also missing imprint) that were off-card with faults, realizing $1,610.
