Bowers Express (Forwarded By), clear full strike of oval handstamp (BOW-100) on 1851 double rate cover to Mount Pleasant, Iowa, entered the mails with "San Francisco, Cal., Jul 15" cds and matching "20" rate, Extremely Fine, an exceptional strike of this early pioneer express company.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Bowers Express operated from late 1849 until October of 1851, carrying from Nevada City area (Caldwell's Upper Crossing) to San Francisco.

Thomes & Skadan's Express, black company frank (THO-009) on 1870 3¢ Reay entire to San Francisco, clear strike of blue "Wells, Fargo & Co., Reno, Sep 6" cds, Very Fine and choice, a nice usage of this early 1870's express which ran between Susanville, Cal. and Reno, Nevada connecting with Wells, Fargo & Co., only nine usages with this frank are recorded.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Wells & Herring's Moore's Flat and Eureka Express, printed frank in ornamental frame (Haller FW9, Ty. 1) on 3¢ green entire (U83) to Sacramento, conjunctive use with blue "Wells, Fargo & Co. Nevada Jun. 23" oval datestamp, small tear at upper right, still Very Fine, unusually choice example of this rare frank, this is the 1871 "Wells & Herring" version of the ornamental frank used since 1864, ex-Dale-Lichtenstein.
