Special Delivery, 1888, 10¢ Blue, two top plate number and imprint strips, first is plate No. 552 strip of four, nicely centered with bright color, o.g., some reinforced perf separations, other is plate no. 73 top row strip of four with full selvage, deep intense color, no gum, reinforced perf separations, center stamp thinned with tiny hole, F.-V.F., A scarce pair of plate strips from the first two printing plates.

Printing plate number 552 was the first printing plate used to print the issue. Plate number 73 was the second printing plate used after the new American Bank Note Company (ABNC) numbering system was established.

AN EXTREMELY RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED PLATE BLOCK OF EIGHT OF THE 1888 10¢ SPECIAL DELIVERY ISSUE.

Each of the first four Special Delivery Issues (E1-E4) is rare in plate block form. There are maybe ten known of the 1888 Issue.

R.P.O. 24 Oct 1888" railroad cds on cover to Bar Harbor Me., forwarded to Cambridge Mass., reverse with Bar Harbor (10.24) and Cambridge Station (10.25) backstamps, purple Cambridge special delivery handstamp, Very Fine.

Sep 10, 1891" cds on cover from Oroville Cal. to San Francisco, originally mailed bearing 10¢ Special Delivery (E1) cancelled by manuscript and 2¢ carmine (220), tied by target cancel, forwarded to the Palace Hotel in San Francisco with the #E2, pink "Special Delivery, Post Office, San Francisco Cal., Sep 11, 1891" time clock backstamp, pencil "No forwarding address", "San Francisco, Cal. Sep 14 '91" duplex and sent back to Oroville; E1 surface scuffs, Very Fine.
