Packet, 23 AU 68" arrival cds; flap partly missing.

AU 15 70" cds, endorsed "Via New York", carried either by Cunard Line Palmyra or Inman Line Brussels from New York to Queenstown, Rugby (8.30) arrival backstamp; reduced at left and small edge flaws, Fine, Prepaid for the 8¢ rate via New York effective January 1st, 1870., ex-de Volpi, Greene.

Island, 3 Jan" and red crayon "4¢" rating paid in cash, Charlottetown (1.4) transit backstamp, carried by Allan Line Moravian to Liverpool arriving Jan. 24th, red "Paid, Liverpool, Br. Packet, 24 JA 73" transit cds and red crayon "3½" d.stg. G.B. credit rating, London "PD" in circle handstamp, Brussels (1.25) arrival backstamp; mended opening faults, Fine appearance, ex-Wilkinson; with 2010 Greene Foundation certificate.

A CHOICE THREE-COLOR CANADA SMALL QUEEN FRANKING PREPAYING DOUBLE THE 6¢ RATE TO GREAT BRITAIN.

This was carried on the maiden return voyage of the Inman-Allan Line "Manitobian". The 6¢ treaty rate to Great Britain was effective January 1, 1870.

A SCARCE THREE-COLOR CANADA SMALL QUEEN FRANKING PREPAYING THE 10¢ RATE TO FRANCE.

The 10¢ per ¼oz. rate to France was valid from October 1870 with the British 3½d stg. share of postage noted in magenta.

Packet, 24 JA 76" transit, Edinburgh (1.24) arrival backstamp, Very Fine.

The 5¢ preferred rate was effective October 1, 1875. Canada was blocked from GPU membership by action of France and Spain, and did not join the UPU until July 1st, 1878. In response, the United Kingdom extended a lower 5¢ rate not valid to other distant parts of the British Empire.

The cover was prepaid 45c for the treaty rate effective January 1st 1876 for 15gr. with 1½d credit to Canada.
