Lot 1682 o

1851, 1¢ blue, type III, position 99R2, light town cancel, ample to large margins, strong color with a slight dry print, Very Fine, with the certificate grade far to harsh for a full four margin stamp; with 1999 & 2008 P.F. and 2007 P.S.E. certificates, the latter Graded (F-VF 85).
Scott No. 8    $12,500.

A LOVELY EXAMPLE OF THE 1851 1¢ TYPE III IMPERFORATE FROM THE THE POSITION BEARING THE FINEST EXAMPLE OF THIS TYPE - POSITION 99R2.

The 99R2 was a fresh entry over an original entry on the plate (portions of which can be seen in the right scrolls), which was short transferred at both the top and bottom. Because of this very short transfer at top and bottom of the design, it produced the widest breaks in the top and bottom outer lines, giving us the finest example of type III.
