Danish West Indies, 1868 (Aug. 12) St. Thomas, D.W.I. to London, England, folded letter with "R.S." endorsement at lower left for Royal Service to the Danish Consul General at London, bearing Great Britain 4d vermilion (43), three singles with rich color, tied by blurry "C51" horizontal barred ovals, red "St-Thomas, A, Paid, Au 12 68" cds, carried by RMSP Neva departing Aug. 13th to Plymouth arriving Aug. 24th. London (8.25) paid arrival cds, Very Fine.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Letters sent by the Danish Government between St. Thomas and London on British mail could be marked "RS" for Royal Service and would be exempt from Danish post office charges. British postage, however, still had to be paid.

Danish West Indies, 1873 (Jan. 17) St. Thomas D.W.I. to Jamaica, printed circular bearing Great Britain 1d red tied by "St-Thomas, Paid, JA 17 73" duplex to Jamaica; faulty, Fine and rare 1d printed mail rate, One of only two recorded D.W.I. to Jamaica printed matter usages.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Danish West Indies, 1873 (Jul. 4) St. Thomas D.W.I. to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, gray folded letter bearing Great Britain 4d vermilion tied by perfect strike of "St-Thomas, A, Paid, JY 4 73" duplex with "C51" barred oval, neat "Schön Willink & Co., St. Thomas" oval at lower left; file fold barely affects 4d, otherwise Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Danish West Indies, 1874 (Apr. 20) Santiago de Cuba, Cuba to Barbados via St. Thomas, blue folded letter with blue "J.Bueno y Ca., Santiago de Cuba, Apr 20 1874" double-circle merchants handstamp, entered mails with Great Britain, 4d vermilion (43) tied by "St. Thomas, A, Paid, MY15 74" duplex with "C51" barred oval, Barbados (5.19) arrival cds and manuscript "1" pence inland postage due, F.-V.F.

Danish West Indies, 1874 (May 14) St. Thomas, D.W.I. to Gottingen, Germany, light gray cover bearing Great Britain 2d blue, 1s green tied by clear strike of "St. Thomas, Paid, MY 14 '74" duplex with "C51" barred oval, red "London, Paid, 29 MY 74" transit cds, German (5.30) arrival backstamp; 2d faulty, otherwise Very Fine and scarce use to Germany.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The 1s2d prepaid rate from the British Post Office at St. Thomas to Germany was effective from 1871 to 1874.

Danish West Indies, 1875 (Oct. 4) St. Thomas, D.W.I. to Gironde, France, cover bearing Great Britain 4d vermilion and 1s green, two singles of latter, tied by two strikes of "St-Thomas, Paid, OC 4 75" duplex with "C51" cancel, carried by RMSP Don departing Oct. 15th to Plymouth arriving Oct. 28th, red "PD" in circle handstamp, Calis (10.30) entry cds.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

A RARE 2S 4D FRANKING FOR QUADRUPLE THE 7D RATE FROM DANISH WEST INDIES TO FRANCE.

The British rate of 7d per ¼ oz. to France was effective July 1871 to December 31st 1875.
