Hawaii, E. W. Holdsworth., Honolulu, two-line handstamp on flap of 1893 registered wrapper to Colchester, England bearing 25¢ dark violet, red ovpt (64) tied by four-ring cancel, two strikes of red "Honolulu, Hawaii, Sep 4, 1893" cds (273.01, scarcity 2) with matching "R" registry and "A.R." return receipt handstamps, red London Registered entry postmark also ties stamp, Colchester (10.4) arrival backstamp, Very Fine and rare registered wrapper use.
Peters-Uota No. EWH-HS-1    Estimate $500 - 750.

Wrapper usage probably prepaid for five-times the 2¢ second-class rate for each 2 ounces plus 10¢ registry and 5¢ return receipt fees. E.W. Holdsworth was the designer of the 1894-99 Hawaiian Pictorial Issues.

Hawaii, Elite Ice Cream Parlors and Candy Factory Seal, blue serrated circular adhesive ad seal showing "Hart & co., Honolulu" heart at center, affixed on reverse of reduced legal-size cover to Lowell Mass. bearing 1¢ green, red overprint (55) pair and 6¢ yellow green, red overprint (60) strip of three, each tied by three strikes of purple four-ring cancel, matching partial "Honolulu, Hawaii" double-circle datestamp and "Registered" R handstamp at left, endorsed "Registered" at top left, reverse with Montreal, Canada and Boston (11.21.1894) transits, and Lowell (11.21) arrival oval; small flaws, Fine.

Hawaii, HART & CO. Honolulu, purple straightline at lower left on legal-size blue registered cover to San Francisco Cal. bearing franking of two 2¢ rose (43) pairs, five 5¢ ultramarine (39) singles, and 2¢ rose, black ovpt (66), all tied by purple four-ring cancels, red "Honolulu, Hawaii, Sep 13, 1893" cds with matching "R" registered and "A.R." handstamps, San Francisco (9.20) arrival backstamps; two 5¢ faulty, Very Fine.

Queen Liliuokalani was deposed on Jan. 17, 1893. Postmaster Oat issued an order in April 1893 that after May 20th, the unoverprinted stamps would not be valid. This was apparently ignored as show by this cover with "invalid" stamps accepted and an overprinted 2¢ added to make up needed postage.

From Honolulu Hawaiian Islands", large advertising brown cover to Germany for "The Elite Ice Cream Parlors, Candy Factory and Dealers in Curios of the Pacific" bearing 18¢ dull rose, black ovpt (71) tied by purple four-ring cancel, matching "Honolulu, Hawaii, Nov 19, 1894" double-circle datestamp and "R" registered number handstamp, Very Fine.

This envelope style was used by Hart & Co. to send printed souvenir views via printed matter abroad. This cover was prepaid four-times the 2¢ per 2 oz. second class rate plus 10¢ registry fee.
