Bermuda, 1936 Hindenburg Trans-Atlantic Flight from Hamilton, Bermuda, May 6, 1936 very rare Hindenburg Trans-Atlantic US/Bermuda combination flight cover, franked with 1936 2½d dark blue & light blue tied by Hamilton cds and U.S. 1926, 20¢ Airmail pair (C9) tied by "New York, May 11, 1936" machine postmark, flight cachet and Frankfurt backstamp, Very Fine, the Cwiakala Bermuda flight book only records one, however there are now 4 recorded examples, an exceptional usage originating from Bermuda and on a Hindenburg flight that started in Bermuda exactly one year before the disaster.

Bermuda, 1936 Hamilton, Bermuda Commercial Double Rate Air Letter, Jun 10, 1936 legal size cover with 1936 1½d + 2½d KGV (paying the double weight ship rate to New York) and eleven U.S. 1926, 20¢ Airmails (C9) applied to front and back and all cancelled paying the $2.20 air rate for a double weight letter to Buenos Aires, Argentina (backstamp), Very Fine, a rare rate that lasted a short time.

Bermuda, 1936 Registered Air Combination Franking, Sep 10, 1936 cover to Crossroads, Jamaica (backstamp) with 1936, 1sh6d brown tied by Hamilton cds, manuscript Bermuda "R 834" registration mark and U.S. 1926, 20¢ Airmails (C9) tied by regular New York, N.Y. cds; some light toning, F.-V.F., few registered combination franked covers from Bermuda are recorded carried on foreign airmail flights during this time, the registration fee for the trip was prepaid in Bermuda while the airmail rate was paid with U.S. stamps.

Bermuda, 1936-37 Bermuda - U.S. 1934, 6¢ Winged Globe Airmail Combinations, group of three combination frankings with Bermuda illustrating different types of usages; commercial cover from Inverurie Hotel in Bermuda with Bermuda 2½d paying ship rate to U.S. and U.S. 1934, 6¢ Airmail (C19) both tied by March 1936 machine cancel on cover to Miami, Florida; March 1936 cover with Pair of Bermuda 2½d Caravel tied by light "Docks Hamilton" cds paying the supplementary rate for covers posted directly at the dock to expedite shipping on the first available ship along with U.S. 1934, 6¢ Airmail tied by New York cds to Chicago (cover flaws); registered air usage to Washington State with Bermuda KGVI coronation stamps tied by "Hamilton, Jun 30, 1937" cds paying the 5½d regular ship rate to New York and then with U.S. 1934, 6¢ Airmail tied by New York cds paying air rate, F.-V.F., scarce trio - especially the supplementary rate cover.

Bermuda, 1937 Hamilton, Bermuda to Managua, Phillippines, July 1937 cover franked by Bermuda KGVI 2½d Coronation to pay steamer/ship rate to New York, with U.S. 1923, 6¢ + 10¢ Bureaus (558+562) tied by "New York, Jul 19, 1937" cds on likely FAM first fight cover to Managua, Nicaragua (backstamp), Very Fine, very rare destination for a Bermuda/USA combination cover and the only one recorded.

Bermuda, 1937 Bermuda - U.S. Airmail & Special Delivery Combination, Hamilton Bermuda June 1937 cds ties KGVI 2½d Coronation on U.S. combination air and special delivery franking sent by ship to N.Y. and then by air (C19) to Boston, Mass backstamp and with Special Delivery (E15) both tied by different N.Y. cancels, Very Fine, less than five commercial Bermuda combination covers that show the prepayment of air and special delivery within the U.S. with the proper stamps.

Bermuda, 1937-41 Bermuda - U.S. 1927 10¢ Special Delivery Combinations, group of 4 different usages with U.S. 1927 10¢ Special Delivery (E15); 1937 single ship rate to N.Y. paid by KGVI 2½d Coronation, similar cover but at the supplementary rate with partial Docks Hamilton cancel in Dec 1937, KGVI 7½d air rate to New York used Oct 1941 (pictured on page 42 of Cwiakala Bermuda Air book), and a very scarce registry ship rate cover to N.Y. in Mar 1938, Very Fine, a great group for the specialist showing different Bermuda rates in combination with U.S. 1927 10¢ Special Delivery issue.

Lot 88    

Bermuda, 1937 Bermuda "Cavalier" First Flight Cover, June 15, 1937 cover at 9d rate to N.Y. sent with U.S. 1927, 10¢ Special Delivery (E15) tied by N.Y. cancel and with "Fee Claimed" handstamp for the service applied on the front, Very Fine and choice, although this flight was fairly prolific, only a handful of combination frankings exist.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Bermuda, 1938 Bermuda - U.S. 1934, 50¢ Transpacific Airmail Combination, March 24, 1938 commercial cover with Bermuda KGVI 2½d and 1½d tied by Hamilton cds paying the double ship mail rate to New York, with U.S. 50¢ Bureau + 1934, 50¢ Airmail, two singles (701+C22) tied by N.Y. cds of March 28th paying the $1.50 triple air rate to Manila, Philippines (backstamp April 14th); cover wrinkles and opening flaws, F.-V.F., this is the only recorded commercial combination US/Bermuda air rate cover during the KGVI period from Bermuda to the Philippines.

Lot 90    

Bermuda, 1938 Imperial Airways First Flight, March 19, 1938 Baltimore, Md. to Bermuda carried the day after the Pan American Airway flight with Bermuda franking added and cancelled by "Hamilton March 22, 1938" cds for the return flight, backstamp in N.Y. on March 24th, Very Fine, not only are there only five covers recorded from this flight, this is the only one known for the return flight, which was probably done by Pan American Airway along the same route, a rare item of the early days of Bermuda commercial aviation.
