This bisect came from a new find and was first offered at public auction by William Carson in Auckland on December 2nd 1985. It was described as having come from the files of Edinburgh solicitors. The 24 Richardson bisect usages are recorded from July 17, 1858 to July 19, 1859. With the availability of the 6d stamp in August 1859, the use of the 1s bisect was rendered unnecessary.
