ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED 1857 1S EMERALD-GREEN USAGES, AN EXCEPTIONAL FRANKING PREPAYING THE 1S 2D RATE TO THE UNITED STATES VIA SUEZ AND THE U.K.

There are only three covers recorded with the emerald-green and four recorded with the blue-green shade, primarily to pay rates on letters to the United Kingdom. Only two domestic covers are known. The cover offered here is the only 1858 1s issue used to the United States and the earliest recorded with stamps paying the postage.

Drury is a rural town near Auckland where coal mining was established in the 1850s and used as a military outpost during the Maori wars.
