"(J)" denoting contents written in Japanese, F.-V.F. and rare Internee mail from Crystal City to Peru.

ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THIS 15¢ AIRMAIL RATE TO PERU.

The 15¢ per ½ ounce airmail rate to Peru was in effect April 1, 1945 to October 31, 1946.

1938, 3¢ Presidential, tied by "Tucson Ariz., Oct 30, 1945" wavy machine cancel to Undercover P.O. Box 1663, Santa Fe, N.M. "U.S. Army Examiner" censor tape at right and "Paid by Examiner, Base 2296 Army" circular censor handstamp, Very Fine and scarce use to undercover Manhattan Project address.
Scott No. 807    Estimate $200 - 300.

"P.O. Box 1663" in Santa Fe N.M. was assigned to a scientist assigned to the Manhattan Project, which was located in Los Alamos N.m. and developed the atomic bomb. This was censored by U.S. Army censors.

1938, 3¢ Presidential, booklet pairs and single, used with 1¢ defense (899), tied by barred oval duplexed with "Santa Fe, N.Mex., Aug 6, 1943" cds on gray cover with "P.O. Box 1534, Santa Fe, N. Mexico" return address to Detroit Mich.; minor stamp flaws, Very Fine undercover address use.

The "P.O. Box 1534" was an undercover address assigned to medical staff and non-technical personnel working on the atomic bomb project. All outgoing mail was submitted unsealed for censorship, but bore no censor markings. This cover was prepaid 16¢ for the 6¢ airmail rate plus 10¢ Special Delivery fee.
