THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE $1 TRANS-MISSISSIPPI BICOLOR DIE ESSAY WITH THIS COLOR OF FRAME.

The $1.00 Trans-Mississippi comes in seventeen Scott listed colors. Approximately twelve are unique. These unique colors should not be confused with the two bicolor essays that are considerably more common.

1898, Trans-Miss., $2 Essay Collateral, group of two 1896 Republican National Convention Tickets for the 4th and 5th Days showing the model for the $2 Trans-Mississippi river bridge vignette; 4th day with couple bottom edge tone spots, Very Fine.
Scott No. 293 var.    Estimate $200 - 300.

The tickets feature an engraving of the James B. Eads Bridge that was used as the model for the $2 vignette. Although the new die engraved by Marcus W. Baldwin for the stamp vignette is small and less detailed than the image on these tickets, it is very accurate to the source material.
