Department, Dead Letter Office, Jan "26", 18 "53" " double-oval with red manuscript, Very Fine.

(TransA - Collins) 1852 (Oct. 30) New York, N.Y. to Geneva, Switzerland, gray folded letter with red "N.York Paid Oct 30" exchange cds and matching "Paid" arc handstamp with pencil "35" cent prepaid rating, large New York red "12" credit handstamp, carried by Collins Line Baltic from New York Oct. 30th to Liverpool arriving Nov. 10th, red Aachen (11.12) transit backstamp and matching "Franco" straightline with blue manuscript "fr. 1" credit to show the foreign transit fee was paid, Baden rail (11.14) transit backstamp, red manuscript "10" rappen restatement of foreign transit fee prepayment, blue Geneva (11.16) arrival backstamp, red crayon "260" rappen due rating; top edge tear, Very Fine.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.

THIS LETTER WAS CARRIED ON THE FIRST VOYAGE FROM THE UNITED STATES TO CARRY PRUSSIAN CLOSED MAIL.

Letter paid fully prepaid the 35¢ Prussian closed mail rate per ½ ounce to Switzerland. The Swiss marked in error 260 rappen postage due for an unpaid double rate letter via England and France. One of the 4,000 Prussian closed mail letters carried on this voyage.

(TransA - Collins) 1854 (Sep. 16) New York N.Y. to Liverpool, England, printed circular outer sheet bearing two 1¢ blue (9) singles, positions 65L1L, 8L1L, large to slightly in margins, right stamp with top sheet margin, minor corner wrinkle at top right away from design, tied by New York circular grids, carried by Collins Line Baltic from New York Sep. 16th to Liverpool arriving Sep. 27th, green Liverpool America (9.27) backstamp and fancy "2" pence due rating handstamp, Very Fine and choice, ex-Winter.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Prices Current (printed circulars) were sent from the U.S. at the newspaper rate of 2¢ with 2 pence to be collected in G.B. Liverpool arrival datestamp on reverse was struck in green, a color used in 1853 and 1854.

Mar 17" cds and matching "Paid" and "24" rating handstamps, New York red "3" credit to G.B. handstamp, carried for Collins Line by Nashville from New York May 21st to Liverpool arriving Apr. 3rd, red "Paid In America, Liverpool, 3 AP 55" tombstone entry datestamp; reverse with Carlisle (4.3) and partial Dumfries-shire (4.4) arrival cds.

1855 (Mar. 21) New York N.Y. to Liverpool, England, gray folded letter with red "New-York, Am. Packet, Mar 21" exchange cds and pencil "21" prepaid rating, carried as endorsed for Collins Line by Nashville from New York May 21st to Liverpool arriving Apr. 3rd, London (4.4.) backstamp transit, Paris (4.5) entry cds and black "8" décimes due handstamp; light horizontal fold toning, Very Fine pair of covers carried on the eastbound voyage.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

"Nashville" was chartered for a single voyage in place of the "Pacific", which had been lost at sea in late January.

Am. Pkt. 'Paid 24' Sep 20" exchange cds restating prepayment; bit of flap missing, Very Fine and attractive.

Pkt., Jan 19" exchange cds and matching "TOO LATE" straightline, despite 1¢ underpayment, sent fully prepaid by American Packet by Collins Line Atlantic departing New York Jan. 19th to Liverpool arriving Jan. 31st, London (1.31) transit backstamp, Calais (2.1) entry cds and matching "8" décimes due handstamp, Cormmont (2.2) arrival backstamp; missing one leaf but front and back are intact, Very Fine, ex-Walske.
