Apr 9, 1860" cds, red "New York 'Paid 9' Apr 14" credit exchange cds, carried by North Atlantic S.S. Co. Adriatic from New York Apr. 14th to Havre arriving Apr. 25th, bluish purple Havre (4.25) entry octagon and small red "PD" framed handstamp; some minor toning, F.-V.F. and spectacular franking, Carried on the maiden voyage of the Adriatic , which was the first voyage of the North Atlantic Steamship Co.. The New York credit of 9¢ was for triple-weight (½-¾ oz.), corresponding to triple the 15¢ treaty rate. The front was overpaid 10¢ as a result.

Letter carried on 2nd of only five round voyages of Adriatic (formerly of the Collins Line) for the short-lived North Atlantic Steamship Company, which carried contract mails on only six round voyages from New York to Havre via Southampton in 1860.
