(San Benito) Bitterwater, Cal., Jun 28, 1883, cds (SAB-60) on cover to Preparation Pa., franked with 3¢ Banknote (small flaws) tied by target handstamp; cover tear at top barely affecting postmark and reduced, otherwise Very Fine, the only recorded first type handstamp postmark from Bitterwater (photo on web site).

(San Benito) Emmett, Cal., Jun 6, neat manuscript postmark (SAB-140) on cover to San Jose, franked with manuscript canceled 3¢ Banknote (corner crease), 1878 docketing, Very Fine and attractive, rare and short-lived, with known postmarks from May 12 to June 6 of 1878 (photo on web site).

(San Bernardino) Barstow, Cal., Jul. 29, 1886, purple sawtooth cds (Williams unlisted, new SBE-505) and target duplex tying 1883, 2¢ red brown on cover to La Conner, Wash., with receiving backstamp (La Conner type 5 in Boardman's book, 3 known per census) and original enclosure; cover reduced at left, Very Fine, the only example of this townmark recorded, this postmark was applied two months after the Post Office opened at Barstow and as such is the earliest recorded mark from this location.
