(Town & County) Los Guilicos, Sonoma Co., Cal., May 7, 1889 (Sonoma), bold cds and target duplex (SON-3320, R5) canceling on 1887, 2¢ green entire to San Francisco; cover tear at top center, still a Very Fine and choice strike, a rare short-lived postmark known used from May 7 to June 14 of 1889 after the name changed to South Los Guilicos in March 1889, this being the earliest recorded (photo on web site).

(Town & County) Lumpkin, Butte Co., Cal., Sep 6, 1893 (Butte), purple cds (BUT-2480) on cover to Chico, franked with 2¢ Banknote (s.e. at left) tied by matching star handstamp, Oroville transit backstamp; cover slightly reduced at left, Very Fine and choice (photo on web site).

(Town & County) Mark West, Sonoma Co., Cal., Oct 15, 1881 (Sonoma), serrated oval T&C date stamp (Williams unlisted) on cover to Seattle, W.T., franked with 1¢ Banknote pair tied by target handstamps; right stamp with corner crease, a Very Fine strike, a very rare unlisted postmark, with only two examples we know of.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

This Mark West town & county oval postmark is similar to the following postmark used during 1887-91 (SON-3460). This postmark differs as the county and state designation is in one straight line and the oval is serrated.

(Town & County) Markham, Sonoma Co., Cal., Feb 27, 84 (Sonoma), manuscript postmark (SON-3400) on cover to Stroudsburg, Pa., franked with manuscript canceled 1883, 2¢ red brown, original enclosure with some area content datelined "Markham Mills"; slight rough opening at right, Very Fine, a few manuscript postmarks are known from Jan. 8 to March 5 of 1884.

Cal., Feb 6, 1891 (Nevada), purple cds and target duplex (NEV-1050) tying 2¢+10¢ Banknotes on registered cover to San Francisco, matching straight line "Registered" handstamp, receiving backstamp; cover with couple small tears and file affecting postmark, otherwise Very Fine, the only recorded example of this town & county postmark (photo on web site).

(Town & County) McPherson, Los Angeles Co., California, Aug 19, 1886 (Los Angeles), choice strike of oval date stamp (LOS-9590) on cover to Redfield, Wy., franked with 1883, 2¢ red brown tied by matching Maltese Cross handstamp; cover reduced at right, an Extremely Fine and choice strike, the earliest recorded first type postmark from McPherson.

(Town & County) Mountain Ranch P.O., Calaveras Co., Cal, 5/2/85 (Calaveras), purple straight line postmark with manuscript date (CAL-1820) on manuscript canceled 1884, 2¢ brown entire to San Francisco, Very Fine, extremely rare with only one other example reported by Williams.

(Town & County) Murphys, Calaveras Co. Cal., Feb 13, 1894 (Calaveras), purple cds and grid duplex (CAL-1980) canceling on 2¢ Columbian entire to New York, with second cover bearing similar "Murphy, Calaveras Co. Cal., Feb 5, 1895" cds and grid duplex (CAL-1990) with "S" dropped from "Murphys", tying 2¢ Bureau on corner card cover to Coulterville, returned to sender with numerous transit backstamps, a Very Fine duo, both scarce short-lived postmarks and both the latest recorded.

(Town & County) Navarro, Mendocino Co., California, Dec 1, 1889 (Mendocino), clear purple cds and target duplex (MEN-2550) tying 2¢ Banknote (perf flaws) on cover to San Francisco; minor cover stains, a Very Fine and choice strike, the earliest recorded example of Navarro's first postmark, known used from Dec. 1, 1889 to Jun. 16, 1890.
