Tennessee - Decherd, our consignor's home town - hundred or so items, beginning with the Civil War era, up into the twenties and modern era, to include meter, permit and machine cancels and a bit of family correspondence and history, most individual items of a fairly minimal value, but interesting as a group.

Tennessee - Machine Cancel to Modern Collection, 1890-1990's, massive holding of thousands on pages filling 10 large boxes; includes machine cancels from the 1890's on with the major cities (Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville) having sections of the various machine cancel types, majority of material identified by the collector as to the dial and killer types, modern material includes some handstamp duplex marks, special event cancels, etc.; a truly extensive holding and an excellent study for further development.

Tennessee - Railway Post Office Cancels, good selection RPO cancels starting from the 1870's up through about 1940, some better items (we will let you look them up in Towle) with a few values to $25 or so, generally good condition with quite a few fine to very fine.

Tennessee Stampless Postal History, 1818-1860s, about 64 usages, includes 1818 "Nashv T." oval use, 1821 "Bean's Station" manuscript, 1842 "Lenoir's Te" ms. postmark, 1823 and 1825 "Winchester T" ms. postmarks, 1847 "Standing Rock Ten" ms. postmark, 1850 "Marshals Ferry" ms. postmark "Free" use; red and blue Winchester cds's including segmented styles, few Nashville cogged rating handstamps, red Brownsville cds and crude "5" rating h.s., couple incoming hand-carried from Switzerland, etc. some content, interesting group.

Texas Postal History Collection Balance, extensive mostly 19th century collection of approximately 530 covers and cards most of which are written-up in great detail on stock pages in 22 binders; organized by town or county or geographical region of Texas, many better covers throughout, including Confederate stamped and stampless, statehood stampless with nice 1847 Clarksville manuscript (Red River), many scarce towns and DPOs, many 1850's items with 1859 Sherman cds (Grayson) on Nesbitt entire to New Orleans, strength in 1870-80's Banknote period with 1881 Mobeetie in violet (Wheeler) and 1885 Utopia (Uvalde) fancy T&C cds, with some later to around 1900-10, some with fine historical content; condition varies with many nice and better items throughout.
Estimate    $2,500 - 3,500.

Washington State (and Territory) Hotel Advertising Covers, about 300 cards and covers dating from Territorial days up into mostly the 1930's, with a few beyond, heavy on Seattle, such as the Globe, St. Elmo, and Abbot, but many others such as Bostwick (Tacoma), Randles (Centralia), Bush (Index), Ilwaco (Territorial), Sol Duc (Clallam), Galax (Spokane), Siloam (scenic downtown Soap Lake), and small towns such as Farmington, Cohasset (Helbock SI5), a few RPO's, the Hotel de Grubb in Oroville, about half the covers are nicely illustrated, quite a bit mixed condition, but also many $10 and up covers.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Washington Territory, Incoming Mail, 1862-1889, group of over 70 covers including a few Washington Terr. origin covers and a few Statehood uses, range of origins including San Francisco Cal., Boston Mass., Port Townsend W.T., McDonough N.Y., 1862 Seattle Wash. Terr., South Jefferson Me., Portland Ore. star, New York N.Y., Rochester N.Y., Iowa to Fall City Wash. Terr., Evans Mills N.Y. to Ritzville Wash. Terr.; Rolfe Iowa to North Kamina W.T.; Richmond Va. to Walla Wall W.T.; mixed condition.

Western Cover Balance, of 20 better covers; includes 6 California town usages including 1850's Texas Hill, 1855 S.F. to Scotland, Columbia straight line, 1860's Forest Hill to Germany with 5¢+10¢ franking, and 14 express including Hopkinson's, Bamber, Lamping, Freeman with ad corner card, and Wells, Fargo & Co with two red frank usage, Freeman re-use frank, townmarks including Palisades, Georgetown, Forest Hill and Columbia.

Western Cover Group, neat group of 13 items including three Wells Fargo Express covers with Hamilton, Nev., Roseburg, Org. and Austin, M.T. territory cancels, 1892 Falcon, CO 2¢ red with good political letter, 1898 Ounaalaska, AK cds on cover with 2¢ red (rare) with some staining on front, 3¢ rose on cover with Colorado Territory cds, 2¢ brown banknote on 1887 cover with Springer, New Mexico cds and "missent" marking, 1854 stampless San Francisco to Germany via France with enclosed letter in German and news clipping discussing murder, also late 1700's New Orleans stampless plus four other New Orleans stampless 1806-1808, interesting little group with some worthwhile items.
