Hawaii, 1882, 5¢ ultramarine, tied by light "Honolulu, H.I., Jun 30, 1891" duplex on cover with "Ashford & Ashford, Attorneys, Solicitors, Councillors, etc. etc., Honolulu, H.I." purple double-oval corner card handstamp, Birmingham Ala., Jul. 14th arrival cds also ties stamp, reduced slightly at right, F.-V.F. and scarce corner card use. Scott No. 39.

Hawaii, 1882, 5¢ ultramarine, vertical pair imperforate horizontally, o.g., lightly hinged, lovely bright pastel-like shade, F.-V.F. and rare; with 2017 P.S.A.G. certificate.

Hawaii, 1886, 2¢ rose, diagonal bisect, lower left portion of stamp tied by "Kahului, Maui, Mar 1, 1887" cds (281.013(II)) with second strike alongside on cover addressed Waikapu Sugar Co. in Waikapu Maui, Very Fine, a rare accepted commercial bisect usage from Kahului, Maui.

Hawaii, 1883, 10¢ vermilion, diagonal bisect, tied by "Wailuku, Maui, Sep 8, 1893" cds on cover to Lahaina, receiving backstamp, Very Fine, a rare accepted bisect usage of this Banknote issue.

Hawaii, 1883, $1 rose red, each showing the different types of Opium Duty cancels, including small Maltese Cross, large Maltese in purple not joined, black Maltese joined and the purple "A. S. Cleghorn" signature handstamp, some with usual minor soiling, F.-V.F.
Scott No. 49    Estimate $750 - 1,000.

Cleghorn was the Postmaster General from May 1, 1887 to April 15, 1893 and was married to Princess Likelike. These stamps often show some staining caused by opium which leaked from the tin containers.
