Mexico, 1865, Eagle (4th Period), 3c brown, laid paper, Mexico, cons 157-1865, without gum, margins large to just into frameline at top right, rich deep color, Very Fine, an attractive sound example of this rare laid paper variety of which only 100 where issued, of which 6-7 are believed to exist; signed J.K. Bash, with 1995 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

Mexico, 1864, Eagle (1st Period), 8r dark red, without district overprint, block of 15, o.g., never hinged, light horizontal creases between stamps, still Very Fine, the largest recorded multiple of the 1864 8r Eagle issue; with 2010 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
Scott No. 25c    Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

These are not the cheap reprints (which are dull color and smaller in length) but the taller bright color stamps used in the first period believed to be from plate I.

Mexico, 1866, Emperor Maximilian (engraved), 50c defaced reproduction plate, steel engraved printing plate showing a single very similar image of 50c Maximilian engraved issue, with M.E.P.S.I. certificate stating that it is of unknown origin and not the original government plate which printed the original stamp, plate does not appear to be the one used for known forgeries, so maybe it was produced for printing catalogs, albums or training engravers, design shows a crossing line at center, includes one recent print in black from the plate, Very Fine, a very unusual item that would be an interesting and eye-catching addition to a specialized collection or exhibit; with 2020 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

Mexico, 1867, Gothic "Mexico", ½r black on buff, o.g., never hinged, margins mostly large to touching at left, clear bold overprint and exceptional freshness, Very Fine, almost unheard of in never hinged condition, with another example sold by us in 2020 for $2,600; with 2020 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
Scott No. 35    $4,000 for hinged.

AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1867 ½R HIDALGO WITH GOTHIC "MEXICO" ISSUE IN NEVER HINGED CONDITION.
