1870 (Oct. 22) Paris to Bruille, printed formular letter franked with 20c Empire Lauré tied by "Paris, R. Cardinal-Lemoine, 22 Oct. 70" double circle postmark with illustrated blue oval handstamp of the Musee d'Hist. Nat. on reverse showing Beehive, Serpent & Grapevine, some faults, Extremely Fine and choice, carried by the Montgolfier, quite scarce with the adhesive tied solely by Paris postmark.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

A very rare cover as the mail was captured by the Germans and most of which was destroyed.

1870 (Oct. 24) Paris to Aulnois-en-Perthois (Occupied Zone), folded letter postmarked "Paris, R. de Palestro, 24 Oct. 70" double circle postmark franked with 20c Empire Lauré tied by numeral "16" star cancel, blue crayon manuscript "30" Prussian tax, no arrival as usual with mail sent to Occupied Territory, Very Fine and choice, carried by the Vauban.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

1870 (Oct. 25) Paris to Ballée, folded letter postmarked "Paris, La Chapelle-St. Denis, 25 Oct. 70" double circle postmark, franked with 20c Empire Lauré tied by numeral "892" losange cancel, backstamped "Grez en Bouerre, 2 Nov. 70" arrival postmark, Very Fine, a nice cover from this Inter-Suburban Post Office, carried by the Vauban.

1870 (Oct. 28) Paris to United States, folded printed formular letter to New York, postmarked "Paris, R. Serpente, 28 Oct. 70" double circle postmark and franked with 80c Empire Lauré tied by numeral "25" star cancel and red "New York Paid All, Nov. 14" arrival postmark, markings include red London transit cancel of Nov. 2 and red United States "2 CENTS" credit handstamp, Extremely Fine and choice.
Estimate    $2,000 - 3,000.

A SUPERB COVER TO THE UNITED STATES CARRIED BY THE COLONEL CHARRAS.

Letter written in English and datelined "19 Oct. 1870" with interesting contents regarding the Siege, "If we did not often hear the canon all day long and if we did not see so many soldiers we should hardly know that we are in a besieged city. We are cut off from the rest of the world since a month and have not felt the disastrous effects which the Prussians expect. I hope you do not believe all the accounts of the German newspapers…".

St. Lazare, 28 Oct. 70" double circle postmark and franked with 80c Empire Lauré (clipped perfs & insect hole) tied by numeral "2" star cancel, handstamped red boxed "P.P.", red "London, 2 NO 70" transit and Mexican numeral "4" due marking, Very Fine, carried by the Colonel Charras.
