A VERY RARE BALLON MONTÉ COVER CARRIED BY THE ROUGET-DE-L'ISLE OF WHICH PERHAPS ONLY 3-4 COVERS EXIST.

This balloon carried only official dispatches - no mail was postmarked by the Paris Post Office. Private letters were included only if entrusted to the pilot (as "plis confiés"), and all such are extremely rare.

St. Domque-St-Gn 53, 7E, 22 Dec. 70" double circle postmark and franked with 20c Cérès (small defect) tied by numeral "20" Star cancel, backstamped "Elbeuf, 1 Janv. 71" arrival postmark, Very Fine and attractive, This is from the 7E collection, the last of the day, as such the mail was processed the following day and carried by the Tourville.
