(Penobscot & Kennebeck Railroad) Penobscot & Ken. R.R., Sep 2, route agent's cds ties 3¢ dull red (26) on yellow embossed "Grand Trunk Railway, Portland District" corner card cover to Bangor Me.; some cover faults on reverse, still Very Fine, Rarity VII.
Towle No. 4-I-1    Estimate $300 - 400.

Put onto Route 131 and carried west to Bangor on September 2nd circa 1858.

A rare railway corner card for this historic railroad which operated from 1852-1923 in the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario as well as several New England states, including Maine.

R.R., Apr 29, beautiful strike of blue route agent cds on forwarded cover originating from Roxbury, Mass. with red cds of "Apr. 24" and matching "5" rating handstamp to Providence, forwarded to Chickopee, Mass. with 5¢ red brown (1) tied by blue grid cancel paying forwarding postage; adhesive torn away to reveal "5" rate marking, some cover defects and light tape staining, Fine and intriguing usage; with 2005 P.F. certificate.
Towle No. 72-C-1    Estimate $300 - 400.

The Route Agent on the car probably defaced the stamp to verify original postage. Carried via Worcester and Springfield to Chicopee.
