Put onto Route 10329 on December 4th circa 1855 and carried to Alliance. Transferred 13 miles to Salem on Route 10418 of the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railroad.

R.R., Mineral Point, Nov 1856, oval station marking ties 3¢ dull red (11), on buff cover to Wurtemburg, Pa., with original Nov. 22nd enclosure regarding coming to Mineral Point via the railroad "…from your place to Georgetown in Pa. from that to Wellsville, from that to Beaird (Bayard). Then you will change cars to Minrel Point. The cars come to that place every day at one O'clock…"; stamp with lightened pen cancel, otherwise Very Fine and extremely rare station marking, Rarity VIII.

Put onto Route 9102 at East Rochester to receive the Station Agent's date stamp Carried just 8 miles south to Sandy.

(Cleveland & Toledo Railroad) Cleveland & Sandusky R.R., Feb 4, route agent cds with bold fancy cancel on 3¢ red, grill (94), bright and fresh, on clean cover to Townsend Mass.; reduced slightly at right, Very Fine, Rarity VIII.

The line between Cleveland and Sandusky was operated by the Cleveland & Toledo Railroad. In July 1860, the contract was for Route 9103 of 61 miles at $3,050 a year for a daily service excluding Sundays.

Put onto Route 9103 on February 4th circa 1862 for carriage to Cleveland. Transferred to Route 9095 for Erie and the westward.

Towle states, "About 3 examples of this unusual item have been recorded. It is most likely a railroad company business mail marking - in this case improperly used. The meaning of the distinctive "20" has not been determined."

(Cleveland, Painesville & Ashtabula Railroad) Cleveland & Erie R.R., Jun 25, black route agent cds ties 3¢ dull red (11A) on orange buff cover with original letter datelined "Conneaut, June 25th 1857" to Buffalo N.Y.; pencil docketing, F.-V.F., Rarity VI.

The Cleveland to Erie route was contracted to the Cleveland, Painesville & Ashtabula Rail Road, in July 1856 it was Route 9097 of 96 miles at $21,600 a year for a twice daily service.

Put onto Route 9097 for Erie and transfer east to Buffalo.

THE FINER OF ONLY TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THIS RARE ROUTE AGENT CDS.

Incorporated as the Akron Branch of the Cleveland & Pittsburgh Rail Road in March 1851 and opened in 1853 as the Cleveland, Zanesville & Cincinnati to serve the coal fields of the Millersburg region. The first contract was for Route 10424 in February 1855 at $1,830 a year for a daily service excluding Sundays on the 61¼-mile route.

Carried north on Route 10424 to Hudson on March 10th 1855 for transfer through Cleveland to Buffalo.
