(Virginia City & Truckee Railroad) Reno & V. City Agt., Nov 8, sharp blue route agent cds with matching target cancel on 3¢ green (158), nat. s.e., on cover to Orono, Maine; reduced slightly at right, Very Fine and scarce Nevada railroad use, Rarity IV.

Put onto Route 16419 on November 8th circa 1873 and carried to Reno for transfer eastward via the Central Pacific R.R. Route 14701 for Ogden. The railroad was built to service the Comstock Load, the extensive gold and silver deposits found in northeast Nevada discovered in 1859.
