Lot 182    

Florence Colo, Sep 29, manuscript postmark on 1870, 3¢ green entire to East River, Conn., with photocopy of first page of original enclosure headed "Camp in Arkansas, 10 miles below Cañon (City)", Very Fine, the only territorial postmark from this town, with Jarrett notation on reverse confirming this was from the 1874 section of this correspondence.
Estimate    $250 - 350.

The arrival of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad brought about the establishment of Florence to serve the coal mines and oil fields between Pueblo and Canon City.

Greenhorn, Colo., Mar 10, 1885 (Pueblo), cds with matching target tying 1883, 2¢ red brown on cover to Williamsport, Pa.; couple small cover tears at top, F.-V.F.

Manitou Park, Colo., Aug 26, 1889 (El Paso), cds and target duplex canceling 2¢ Banknote on cover addressed locally to social leader Mr. William Bell at his residence of Briarhurst, Very Fine.

Pueblo C. Ty., Dec 18, choice strike of cds and target duplex tying 1869, 3¢ ultramarine on fresh Thatcher Bros. corner card cover to Trinidad, with original 1869 letterhead enclosure; stamp with bottom right margin nick, otherwise Very Fine and attractive (no photo).

Lot 187    

Pueblo, Col. Ty., Mar 27, 1871, light discernible octagon date stamp on cover to Savona, N.Y., franked with 1870, 3¢ green canceled by circular handstamp; small cover tear at top left, F.-V.F., the unique example of this Pueblo territorial postmark.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Only five Colorado Territory post offices are known to have used an octagon shaped postmark.

Lot 188    

Rollinsville, Colo., June 7/76 (Gilpin), manuscript postmark on manuscript canceled 3¢ green entire to Denver, Colo.; slightly rough opening at right slightly affecting indicia, F.-V.F. and scarce territorial postmark.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Rollinsville was located in northern Gilpin county founded by prospectors from Central City area. Frederick Gooch was appointed the first postmaster opening the office on January 31, 1871.

Southwater, Col., Jun 22 (El Paso), cds and target handstamp canceling 3¢ Banknote on cover to Providence, R.I., with original 1872 enclosure; stamp edge flaw at top from cover overlap, F.-V.F., one of only a few known territorial usages from Southwater, postmark unlisted in Jarrett.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Enclosure mentions getting off at Husted Station, a location were Southwater was relocated in 1878.

Taylorville, Colo., August the 22 (Pueblo), manuscript postmark at left of cover to Edgwood, Cal., franked with manuscript 3¢ Banknote; cover a bit reduced at right with stamp slightly overlapping, F.-V.F.

Colorado Town Balance, 1866-77, of 11 covers, all but two are territorial; includes early 1860's usages including Denver City, C.T., Mountain City, Col., Spanish Bar, Col. and Black Hawk Point, 1870's usages including 1870 Trinidad in red, "Pueblo C. Ty." on fancy dove and scroll address panel cover, uprated "Pueblo, Colo" cover, 1873 Kit Carson, legal 3 color franking 1875 cover from Saguachie, early statehood with 1876 Rosita box date stamp and 1877 Leadville on postal card to Funchal, Madeira, generally F.-V.F. or better.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.
