Cheney & Co. Express, Boston, red circular imprint on ca. 1856 cover to Stafford, N.H., pencil "Paid 12½ by H & F" rating and "Note ordered" docketing, Very Fine, a very rare imprint similar to the gold on black Boston express label.

Fiske & Rice Express, black on vermilion illustrated locomotive label, affixed on 1852 folded letter to New York datelined "Montreal (Canada) November 9th, 1852", with additional red "Pullen Virgill & Co. Express, 10 Wall St." oval handstamp; file fold through label, otherwise Very Fine, a rare combination express usage from Canada, with Costales' pencil note on reverse; with 2010 P.F. certificate.

Gay, Kinsley & Co. Express, group of 11 items; includes three 1847-48 Gay & Co. folded letters, one with manuscript endorsement and two with red New York oval handstamp, four Gay, Kinsley & Co. Express folded letters with three with red New York oval handstamp, another with black Philadelphia oval, and four Kinsley & Co. covers, three with different handstamps and other with manuscript endorsement on 1863 soldier's letter, also a black on blue Gay, Kinsley & Co. express label with "Gay" cut out, generally Fine or better.

No. 8 Court St., Boston, red boxed handstamp with matching red "Paid" boxed handstamp at left on datelined Sept 21, 1844 folded letter from Bangor Me. to Boston Mass., endorsed "Jeromes Express Mail" and "251.50 enclosed", letter requests acknowledgment by Jerome's Express mail when draft shall be paid, Very Fine.

Lot 261    

Pullen & Copp's Express, From New York (Forwarded By), sharp red oval handstamp on folded letter to Albany City, with manuscript "Paid" notation, letter datelined "New York Feb 24th, 1843", Very Fine, a choice and very rare express handstamp.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Pullen & Copp, about 1842-43 started a New York, Albany and North via Troy express. About 1845 it became Pullen & Co., with Copp selling out to E. L. Stone.
