Mexico, 1867, Gothic "Mexico", ½r black on buff, o.g., never hinged, margins mostly large to touching at left, clear bold overprint and exceptional freshness, Very Fine, almost unheard of in never hinged condition, with another example sold by us in 2020 for $2,600; with 2020 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
Scott No. 35    $4,000 for hinged.

AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1867 ½R HIDALGO WITH GOTHIC "MEXICO" ISSUE IN NEVER HINGED CONDITION.

Mexico, 1867, Gothic "Mexico" on thin gray-blue paper, 1r blue, fine single tied by clear complete strike of Diligencias de Cuautla oval stagecoach handstamp (Schatzkes 844) on 1867 folded letter sheet to Mexico, Very Fine, very few stamps of this issue were sent to the stagecoach company in Cuautla, a rarity with only three covers are recorded; with 1998 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
Scott No. 43    Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.
