Hawaii, 1857, 5¢ blue, thin white paper, double impression, showing strong doubling at right and in bottom value tablet, no gum, clear to ample margins, bright color, small thin at bottom and tiny tear at top, F.-V.F. appearance, with not more than ten examples believed to exist; with 1979 H.P.S. certificate (not mentioning faults). AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1857, 5¢ KAMEHAMEHA III ISSUE BEARING A DOUBLE IMPRESSION.
According to F. Gregory's "Post Office in Paradise" website, two sheets of this stamp were double printed. On one sheet the doubling is noticeable on the left of the stamp. On the other sheet, the doubling is seen mostly throughout.
