Hawaii, Playing Card 1893, 25¢ black on grayish essay, 132 x 32mm, full o.g., Very Fine and scarce.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

In 1892, Queen Liliuokalani authorized the printed of this 25¢ black stamp for the collection of revenue on playing cards. However, because the Queen was overthrown in January 1893, Stanford Dole became President of Hawaii, and repealed the tax on playing cards before this revenue stamp was to be issued.
