1847, 5¢ orange brown, ample to large margins, cancelled by orange grid with matching "Elmira N.Y. Dec. 18" circular datestamp at left on a clean, fresh 1849 turned folded letter to Bath N.Y.; inside with red Dec 22 Bath N.Y. cds and matching "5" handstamp, addressed to Elmira; contents of both letters inside; some internal splitting of folds, still Very Fine, an unusual usage of the scarce orange brown shade., ex-Sampson, Dick; identified and signed Ashbrook.
