1910, 1¢ green, S.L. watermark, horizontal coil, pair, tied by bold "Washington D.C., Dec 16, 1910" machine postmark on cover addressed to John Kay in Detroit, Mich., pencil "New Perforation" at upper left; cover with a couple tears not mention on certificate, F.-V.F., the earliest documented usage of the 1910 1¢ horizontal coil; with 2001 A.P.S. certificate. This cover is posted to the famous Detroit collector, John Kay, who had Washington connections in the Post Office Department. This may well explain this very early usage that is within five days of the December 12th issuance date.
