A GEM USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1¢ TYPE II 1857 ISSUE, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY THE P.S.E. - THE HIGHEST GRADED AWARDED SHARED BY ONLY TWO OTHERS.
The 1¢ type II 1857 issue is a surprisingly difficult stamp to find in superb condition. The highest grade awarded by the P.S.E. in mint or used condition is XF-Superb 95, with only five total examples (3 used, 2 mint). For the second most common stamp after the Type V, this shows how difficult it is to find this stamp in truly outstanding condition.
