1857, 12¢ black, plate I, horizontal strip of three, used with 1¢ blue (24), trimmed perfs, tied by circular grid cancels, matching "Washington D.C., Sep 17, 1860" cds on cover to Grobin, Libau, Russia (Latvia), partial "Boston Br. Pkt. Sep 19" exchange backstamp and red crayon "14" cent credit, red "Aachen, Franco 2/10" framed transit and blue ms. "fr 3" rating; left 12¢ toned, couple small cover edge tears at right, F.-V.F. use at the 37¢ Prussian Closed Mail rate to Russia, ex-Sevenoaks.

Unlike this cover to Latvia, most of the 37¢ rate to Russia via Prussian Closed Mail uses are from the Pierce correspondence to St. Petersburg.
