Carrier, 1851 (1¢) Franklin, three large margins, clear to just in at left, uncancelled and affixed to cover addressed to "A. B. Durand, President of the Academy, New York N.Y."; stamp with a vertical crease on right side of Franklin's head, no gum, Fine appearance, a rare unused example of the Franklin Carrier stamp; with 1977 and 2013 P.F. certificates stating the stamp is genuine but declining opinion as to whether it passed through the mails.

Letter is address to the famous engraver Asher B. Durand when he was president of the National Academy of Design from 1846 to 1861 and resided at 91 Amity St.
