The prospects of our mine are not flattering… are the indications so discouraging as to justify abandoning it. … Democracy is triumphant in this states. The Governor recommends a Convention to amend the constitution. The object is to alter it so as to a…. slavery or divide the state, and make the southern part a slave territory.
