(Tuolumne) Sonora, California, Feb 4, 1852, blue two-line postmark (Williams TUO-1340) tying two singles (formerly a pair) of 3¢ orange brown (10) on folded letter datelined "Robinson's Ferry, Jan. 28. 1852" to Mansfield, Ohio, interesting miner's letter with mining and political slave content "…On the first Monday of January my term expired as President of the Soldiers Gulch Mining Co. The prospects of our mine are not flattering… are the indications so discouraging as to justify abandoning it. … Democracy is triumphant in this states. The Governor recommends a Convention to amend the constitution. The object is to alter it so as to a…. slavery or divide the state, and make the southern part a slave territory. The effort I trust will fail…"; stamps irregularly separated, F.-V.F., an excellent miner's letter.
