May 15" cds with red crayon "Paid" with large black "5" handstamp paying the forwarding postage, manuscript docketing dates cover to May 19, 1862, slightly reduced at top & without backflap, still Very Fine, ex-Kohn & Karrer.Estimate $200 - 300.
The Gibbes family were prominent plantation owners in S.C., Professor Gibbs (Charleston College) was singled out by Gen. Beauregard in his official report for his valuable service in operation the Drummond Lights on Sullivan and Morris Islands during the attack on Fort Sumpter.
