31 Star Flag, red and blue design on cover to the 13th N.Y. Reg't military address, franked with 1861, 3¢ rose (65) tied by "Candice, N.Y., Jan 16" cds; slight cover soiling and reduced at right, F.-V.F., very rare.Estimate $200 - 300.
The 31 Star Flag became the official United States Flag on July 4th 1851. A star was added for the admission of California (September 9th, 1850) and was to last for seven years.
