1st Regiment U.S. National Guard, N.Y., Excelsior, blue allover illustrated design showing Eagle, Flags and other allegories, on cover to Prospectville, Pa., franked with 1861, 3¢ rose (65) tied by "Old Point Comfort, Va., Feb 28" cds, with original enclosure with Union Flag in Star patriotic letter headlined "Camp Butler, Newport News, Va." with detailed content regarding what it looks like in battle…The military sight is fine showing nothing but troops enveloped in smoke going through the manouveres of loading and firing, skirmishing & c., but tis the sound that makes the feeling of the soldiers raise to the highest pitch. The rumbling & Thunder of cannon, mingled with the rattling of musketry and the groans of the wounded and dying. The men falling all around you makes you feel timorous at first but soon you recover from that, and spring into the thickest of the fight thirsty for the blood of your enemy.; some cover edge wear, otherwise Very Fine.Estimate $200 - 300.
