Postal Card, 1873-81, 1¢ "Specimen" & "Sample". 13 different cards pasted on to two ledger sheet; 7 first design cards on first page in colors on watermark card including buff, green, violet, greenish blue and ultramarine, one in buff on "Whitings Paper" and issued card with notation The issue of Postal Cards was commenced on the 12th day of May 1873. The first perfect sheet of postal cards ever printed, contained thirty six (36) cards and was approved by the U.S.P.O. Dept., April 30th, 1873. I certify that this postal card was taken from the first sheet approved by the Department. Geo. N. Tyner, U.S. Postal Card Agt., second page with 6 second design cards on various different contractor's cards, many identified by the different companies and dated, one printed in dark green with others in black, some small faults including one first design card with tearing at right, otherwise Fine, a fascinating and important group.
