1898-1902 Spanish-American War Postal History Exhibition Collection. A wonderful collection 76 covers housed in three Gooden Leather Albums with extensive writeups detailing the involvement of the United States in the Philippines & Puerto Rico during the Spanish-American War.

Collateral material includes an Admiral George Dewey autograph on small clip of Navy stationery, several photos, Inspection report for Admiral Dewey's Flagship Olympia signed by John. D. Ford, Chief Engineer, nice group of Philippine Revolutionary Government stamps mint & used, a copy of The Reveille, a newspaper issued weekly for the troops stationed at Camp McKinley, Honolulu, unfranked Soldiers cover with San Francisco "The Irish Fair" multicolor corner card forwarded through the Red Cross Headquarters with bold black California Red Cross handstamp, General Emilio Aguinaldo signed note on the day of capture, which states, "Today the 24th of March 1901 I became a prisoner aboard the cruiser 'Vicksburg'", plus descriptive letter from Major Wm. Carey Brown aboard the Vicksburg detailing the capture of Aguinaldo, along with photos of Aguinaldo and his staff aboard the Vicksburg

Philippines Covers include 5¢ Bureau tied by "Military Sta. 1 Philippines" duplex on cover with "Flagship Olympia" engraved stationery, many soldier's letters with a wide variety of postmarks & usages, 1¢, 2¢, 3¢, 5¢ & 10¢ Ovptd Bureaus on registered Soldier's Letter, registered cover to Germany franked with 3¢, 10¢ & 15¢ Ovptd Bureaus, 1901 cover franked with 2¢ Ovptd Bureau tied by "First Reserve Hospital Sta. Manila" cds (very rare as this postmark was used for a very short period), 2¢ Trans-Miss tied by blue two line handstamp "US Mil. Sta. No. 2 S.F. Cal/Cavite, P.I. Nov. 12, '98" (one of the rarest Philippine Occupational postmarks), 2¢ Trans-Miss tied by two line handstamp "US Mil. Sta. No. 3 S.F. Cal/Iloilo Harbor, P.I. Jan. 27" (one of the rarest Philippine Occupational postmarks), covers with Military Station #3 (Iloilo), #4 (Cebu), #5 (Bacolod)

Patriotic Covers includes 8 Spanish-American War Patriotic covers from troop training camps at Chickamauga Park, Lytle, Ga., plus four others

Puerto Rico Covers include Rare First Day Cover "M. Sta. No. 1/Porto Rico/Aug. 3, '98" (reported to be one of four known), cover postmarked "M. Sta. No. 1/Porto Rico/Aug. 6, '98" with manuscript endorsement "U.S.S. Prairie" (3rd day of use), United States Post Office Ponce, Porto Rico printed corner card on 1900 cover franked with United States 4¢ + 15¢ Bureau Issue tied by grid with registry cancel alongside, War Dept. legal size cover with "Mil. Sta. No. 5 W.D.C./Coamo, Porto Rico" duplex, soldier's letter postmarked by Spanish type double circle postmark of Utuado, which had been designated as Military Station #6, but between the date of Occupation & the opening of the station, mail was handled by the provisional postal service, much of which was unpaid because stamps were not available, large size cover franked with 2¢ Bureau tied by "Mil. Sta. No. 8 W.D.C./Juan Diaz, Porto Rico/Apr. 5, '00"

These are some of the highlights of this collection, but many more treasures are included, this is one of the finest collections we have handled of this fascinating area and is the basis for what surely is destined to be a Gold Medal Collection.
