1867, 3¢ red, F. grill, grill with points up. Deep shade, clear grill impression, perfectly aligned to stamp with points up, cancelled by light dotted grid cancel with part of blue N.Y. town datestamp on cover to Tecumseh Mich., lightly soiled

VERY FINE. THIS IS THE LISTING COPY OF THE 1868 3-CENT F GRILL WITH POINTS UP. AN EXTREMELY RARE GRILLED ISSUE VARIETY.

Accompanied by correspondence between a former owner and Eugene Costales regarding the Scott listing for this variety, which appeared from 1942 to 1959, was then dropped in 1960 because Costales and Perry had never seen an example, and was immediately re-instated when the owner made this cover available for examination.

Original letters from Costales, Brookman and Hugh Clark included with 1974 and 2005 P.F. certificates. Ex Sheriff. Listed but unpriced in Scott.
