Portland, O.T., Aug 21 (Oregon Territory). Neat cds on 1852 incoming cover to Honorable Mr. Benj. Stark in Portland, with "through kindness of Mr. Tappen". endorsement at lower left, with original 3-page enclosure datelined "Jacksonville 3. Augt. 1852" with great historical content: I have received your kind letters of the 24 July 85'2 and also the two enclosed very important letters. One of this letter is from my Brother in the City of Freiburg in Germany in which he informed me that my letter in regard to Oregon has created a universal joy in germany and that whole town make themself ready to Emigrat to out Settlement on the Cheheelis. My Brother will come himself with 500 families and land at Astoria among them are many rich families., letter continues regarding details of the Coalition of the colony and settlement arrangements with U.S. Senators, the Governor of Oregon and the Secretary of the Interior in Washington, also mentions his use as a doctor, gold mining the region, Express mail: I was pleased that you have put the last letter together in yours so I had only to pay here 1$ .50 Cents, forwarding mail to Jacksonville and from Olympia and Stark's help will be rewarded by being elected Governor of Oregon, Very Fine and choice, a wonderful letter and cover regarding the initial founding of a German colony in Oregon.
