"On board the Genl. Hodges, Monday Jan. the 12, 1863". Dateline on folded letter to Jackson Miss. franked with C.S.A. pair of 5c Blue, Local Print (7), full even margins, tied by "Vicksburg Miss." double-circle datestamp, sender's notation "Care Surgeon Potts", letter states "The Genl. Hodges has been to Alexandria & back & is going out this evening. She says that the Frolic was still at Alexa.", Extremely Fine, this is a very rare example of mail posted from a Mississippi steamboat -- Vicksburg fell to Union forces on July 4, 1863 -- ex-Knapp.
