"Supposed liable to U.S. Customs Duties" hand-stamp on front, partial "Hong Kong" transit on back, along with violet "Registered Mar 15 1893 San Francisco Cal" mark. Carried by Japanese mail steamer from Shanghai to Yokohama, then on City of Rio de Janeiro, which reached San Francisco on 15 Mar, 5 stamps and 2 covers cancelled Shanghai: 2) Envelope bearing 2c KE (printed matter rate), cancelled "Shanghai B.P.O. My 25 06", to Saxony. 3) Post card with 4c KE, same cancel: MY 4 07, to GB. 4) Hong Kong KE 4c red (Scott 89) tied "Hankow C Ja 7 08" cds (Webb type Liii) paying 4c per ounce letter rate to GB. Manuscript "Via Siberia" and "Shanghai Br.P.O. C Jy 20 08" transit cds (Webb type K) on reverse, Very Fine.Estimate $200 - 300.
