The Veronica C. Baird Correspondence, 1917-18. 7 covers with enclosures and postal card sent from son, Ensign B.H. Baird U.S.N.R.F. who was sent over to France to train as a pilot at the Ecole D?Aviation Militaire in Avord; interesting enclosures regarding photos taken shortly after arrival (5 small photos included) showing Baird in uniform with instructors (note on reverse "Instructors…since been killed") and Baird in front of plane holding broken propellor, the trials of aviation school and getting his brevit (pilot licence), later letters from Ile Trudy regarding the flying of seaplanes: Since writing the above I have had two motor failures at sea, about twenty miles out. The first time my propellor broke at an altitude of 1,200 feet carrying away part of my left wing and fuselage. The whole machine quivered like a wounded bird, other interesting flight content, etc., Very Fine, a fascinating correspondence during World War II.Estimate $250 - 350.
