Oregon Trail Letter. Datelined May 28 1849, carried by hand by a Mr. Pappan of Ft. Larime and posted at St. Joseph, Mo., postmarked Jun 23 with manuscript "5" and addressed to Kansas, Mo., to sister and wife and speaks of "scoars of the emagrants have died….theare is at this time over foar thousand wagons a head of us", etc; a few nicks but condition is remarkably good considering its itinerary. Estimate $200 - 300.
