Lot 13

Marysville Stage Coach Robbery letter. Two pages from a lengthy letter describing lawlessness, mentions the Vigilance Committee of San Francisco being disbanded, and in the mountains "so much highway robbery and murdering…in broad daylight with men shot off their animals, teamsters plundered, footmen stopped and searched", how the mail coach between Downieville and Marysville with 18 passengers and a "treasure" of over $100,000, was attacked by a gang of 8 and the driver "shot in the arm, one of the passengers, a colored woman, was shot in the head and died two days later"; a fascinating bit of wild west eye witness lore (no photo).
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Realized: $375
